Overview
TypeSpot is a browser extension that helps users inspect and copy typography properties from text on webpages they choose to inspect.
TypeSpot is designed around a local-only approach. Its typography inspection happens on your device, in your browser. TypeSpot does not require an account, does not operate a backend service, and does not use analytics or advertising trackers.
Information TypeSpot processes
TypeSpot processes only the information needed to provide its user-requested typography inspection functionality.
Website content
When you use TypeSpot on a webpage, the extension reads the selected element and its computed style information so it can display typography properties such as font family, font size, font weight, font style, line height, letter spacing, text transform, and text color.
This processing happens locally in your browser. TypeSpot does not send inspected webpage content to Hussein Akl, to a TypeSpot server, or to a third-party analytics service.
Inspection interactions
While inspection mode is active, TypeSpot temporarily responds to actions such as hovering and clicking so it can determine which text element you want to inspect. These interactions are used only to provide the inspection feature and are not used for analytics, profiling, or advertising.
TypeSpot does not send browsing history, page URLs, page titles, selected text, or DOM selectors to Hussein Akl or to a TypeSpot server.
Browser permissions
TypeSpot uses a small set of Chrome extension permissions so its inspection features can work:
- activeTab — provides temporary access to the webpage you choose to inspect after you invoke TypeSpot.
- scripting — allows TypeSpot to run its local inspector on the active page when requested.
- storage — stores the most recently inspected typography values and inspection timestamp locally in the extension's browser storage.
- contextMenus — provides the “Inspect typography” right-click command.
TypeSpot does not request permanent access to every website through an <all_urls> host permission.
Local storage
TypeSpot may save your last inspected typography values and an inspection timestamp using Chrome's local extension storage so they can be shown and copied again from the extension popup.
The saved record is limited to the typography values TypeSpot displays: font family, font size, font weight, font style, line height, letter spacing, text transform, and text color, plus the inspection timestamp.
TypeSpot does not store the page URL, page title, inspected text content, or DOM selector as part of this saved record.
Chrome Web Store Limited Use
TypeSpot's use of information received through Chrome extension APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Website content and related inspection interactions processed by TypeSpot are used only to provide the user-requested typography inspection functionality. TypeSpot does not sell, transfer, or use this information for advertising, profiling, or unrelated purposes.
Changes to this policy
If TypeSpot's functionality or data practices change in a way that affects this policy, this page will be updated to reflect those changes. The effective date above will be revised when appropriate.
